Making Film Possible!

Film Possible is a non-profit organization committed to providing comprehensive, year-round support to the next generation of independent African filmmakers. Our mission is to empower both emerging and established African filmmakers through a range of programs and initiatives aimed at discovering, supporting, and inspiring independent film and media artists from Africa while cultivating new audiences.

To achieve our objectives, we developed a dynamic model that offers a variety of initiatives throughout the year, including Matatu Film Stage, a premier screening and distribution platform showcasing African films to diverse audiences; the Matatu Film Fund, a financial support program designed to fund new film projects and empower filmmakers to bring their creative visions to life; Matatu Film Residency, a residency program tailored for East African filmmakers working in anime, documentaries, and fiction, providing a conducive environment for developing feature-length projects; Matatu Film Lab, a skills development and capacity-building series for filmmakers at all career stages, emphasizing mentorship, technical training, and artistic growth; and Generation Film Possible, a program offering comprehensive support, training, and exhibition opportunities for young filmmakers under the age of 18, nurturing the next generation of African storytellers.

At Film Possible, we understand the critical importance of sharing African stories as a means to preserve and elevate the continent’s rich culture and history while contributing to its social and economic development. However, many talented African filmmakers face significant challenges such as financial constraints, limited technical resources, and restricted professional networks. Our organization bridges these gaps by providing the necessary tools, platforms, and support systems to overcome these barriers, enabling African filmmakers to thrive and tell their unique stories on a global stage. We prioritize diversity and advocacy, emphasizing originality, creativity, and social values, which guide us in fostering meaningful and vibrant dialogues that transcend cultural and geographic boundaries. This approach empowers African filmmakers to take ownership of their narratives, embracing and sharing stories that resonate deeply with audiences worldwide.

By encouraging risk-taking, experimentation, discovery, and innovation, Film Possible creates a forward-thinking environment that supports filmmakers from project inception to completion. We firmly believe that Film Is Possible—and we are dedicated to making this belief a reality for the next generation of African storytellers.
