FILMMAKING MENTORSHIP SERIES

The Filmmaking Mentorship Series (FMS) is a comprehensive training program dedicated to cultivating emerging filmmakers and industry professionals. Led and conducted by a team of African and international industry experts and film mentors, the FMS covers all aspects of filmmaking, from development to distribution. Our primary objective is to equip East African filmmakers with industry-standard skills and knowledge to effectively convey their stories.

Our program is structured to be both theoretical and practical. We employ a creative film bootcamp approach, where participants specializing in various areas of filmmaking are trained and equipped with film knowledge. At the culmination of the workshop, these trained creatives are tasked with producing short films. These films are then showcased on our Matatu Film Stage platforms, which explore innovative self-sustainable screening and distribution strategies in East Africa

Since its launch in October 2021, the program has conducted four filmmaking mentorship workshops, benefiting over 100 emerging filmmakers with diverse film skills. Our goal is to broaden the impact on local film production by providing industry-standard skills and knowledge, including mobile filmmaking techniques, to underprivileged youths and aspiring filmmakers.

Film Possible actively engages with various stakeholders and seeks partners to sustainably execute this project. We are committed to empowering and equipping East African filmmakers with the capabilities to create world-class productions that not only highlight their unique narratives but also contribute to the advancement of the African Film Industry.

MOTIVATION

Stories form a collective human tapestry, woven through the fabric of history. They convey love, joy, grief, struggle, triumph, hope, and infectious laughter. Stories not only define us but also educate us about who we are. They are as essential to our existence as air and water. However, the question remains: who has the privilege of telling these narratives?

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to share their stories, collectively and inclusively. Without our narratives, our essence remains untold. It is our deep-seated passion for storytelling that propels this mentorship program forward. The Filmmaking Mentorship Series (FMS) is dedicated to empowering filmmakers by equipping them with industry-standard skills, knowledge, and invaluable connections.

At the heart of FMS is the aspiration to transform filmmakers’ ambitions and dreams into reality. We strive to create a nurturing environment where creativity thrives, enabling storytellers to craft compelling narratives that resonate globally.

IMPLEMENTATION

The program is a collaborative effort spearheaded by Film Possible in partnership with its dedicated associates. Comprising a team with extensive experience in producing and leading workshops and mentorship programs, Film Possible and its associates are meticulously involved in every aspect of the program’s development, implementation, and management.

Participants enrolled in the program continue to benefit from ongoing access to their mentors throughout the year. This continuous support ensures that filmmakers receive guidance and expertise beyond the structured sessions, allowing for sustained growth and development

Recognizing the need for diversity and inclusion, the FMS prioritizes participation exclusively for East African citizens. This strategic focus not only fosters local talent but also cultivates a vibrant filmmaking community that reflects the rich cultural tapestry of the region.
